Hey y’all!

I’m Cat Sonnier, (that’s saw-nn-yay for my non-cajun friends), and I will be your baker! I was born and raised a Lafayette Louisiana cajun, though now, my family and I have lived in the Richmond Virginia area for about 20 years.

Growing up, my mom always hand-made everything we ate, from Sunday dinners to our cakes, and pralines. Mom’s dream was to decorate cakes when all of the 5 kids were grown, and watching her was inspiring. At 13 or 14 years old, I watched as she took classes and practiced her own style of baking and decorating, and those memories of having Mom’s homemade cakes for special occasions are so special to me.

When my beautiful daughters came along, I wanted to bake their birthday cakes and make all of their decorations from scratch just like my mom did for us, so that my kids could have the same memories and special feeling. I very quickly fell in love with baking and decorating, so much that I wanted to do it for others outside of my family.

Around the end of 2012, I decided to pursue the business of baking and decorating cakes, and had a lot of success from 2012-2018. Though, things were a little rough with two kids still in school and living at home, and with my youngest daughter’s schedule, I put my business on hold to focus on my family. This didn’t stop me from making and decorating for friends and family gatherings throughout the last 8 years, which always made me miss baking for others.

Now that my kids are all grown up, out of school, and doing their own thing, I decided to take the opportunity to fulfill my mom’s dream, and start my business back up again from scratch. I will be under an entirely new brand and name, Cat’S Confections. I am beyond excited to start doing this again, and I look forward to baking something truly special for y’all soon!
